Board of Trustees Scholarship for Monroe County High School Graduates

FALL 2024

Scholarship is available to 2024 Monroe County High School graduates ONLY. Applicants must complete an Admission Application to The College of the Florida Keys before they will be given log in credentials to apply for the Board of Trustees Scholarship.

POLICIES GOVERNING BOARD OF TRUSTEES SCHOLARSHIP AWARDED TO OUTSTANDING GRADUATES OF MONROE COUNTY HIGH SCHOOLS:

1. Acceptance of this scholarship reflects the recipient’s understanding of these guidelines and the intention to comply with them.

2. The scholarship is awarded for one (1) calendar year commencing in August of the recipient’s high school graduation and ending in August of the following year. It will be renewed for the next calendar year if all guidelines have been met and funding allows.

3. Students must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) for the 2024-25 academic year. Failure to complete the FAFSA application will jeopardize the scholarship award.

4. The general criteria to be applied in selecting students should include:

  • Academic performance by having earned a 3.0 grade point average (GPA) on a 4.0 scale
  • Demonstrated leadership ability
  • Commitment to higher education

5. The scholarship amounts to full payment of the in-state portion of tuition charges for the effective terms. The student pays only for the application fee, laboratory and special fees, and the cost of books and supplies.

6. Students receiving the scholarship must be degree seeking and must COMPLETE a minimum of six (6) credit hours during Term I and Term II (fall and spring) and no fewer than (3) credit hours during Term III (summer) if attending during summer terms. Summer enrollment is not mandatory although encouraged.

7. The recipient must enroll for Term I (fall) following high school graduation. Failure to do so will constitute forfeiture of the scholarship.

8. The recipient must maintain a 3.0 grade point average and successfully complete 2/3 of the total number of courses attempted to maintain/renew the scholarship.

9. As described in the Board of Trustees’ Scholarship Procedure, the recipient agrees to participate in approved college extracurricular activities and attend the Annual College of the Florida Keys Scholarship Recipient & Donor Social at the Tennessee Williams Theatre on the William A. Seeker Campus in Key West during the Fall semester. The event typically occurs in September and details will be distributed when confirmed.

10. The recipient disqualifies him/herself from further use of the scholarship by:

  • Not utilizing the scholarship for the fall term in the year after graduating from high school.
  • Not completing a minimum of six (6) credits in Terms I & II, including any term in which a "W” or “I” is received in lieu of a letter grade.
  • Not maintaining a 3.0 grade point average.
  • Not adhering to College policies and procedures as outlined in the Student Handbook.
  • Not participating in approved extracurricular activities, as required.

11. Should the recipient be unable to register for or complete the required amount of credits in a given term due to unforeseen or extenuating circumstances, he/she may petition the Director of Financial Aid for a waiver which, if granted, would maintain the scholarship as effective.

The Foundation reserves the right to withdraw or modify the student’s award based on the student’s fulfillment of required scholarship criteria.
